About MAV-TEC Testing

An Independent Welding Testing Laboratory Built on Experience, Integrity & Customer Trust

MAV-TEC Testing is an independent welding testing laboratory providing welder qualification, procedure development, weld inspection support, and testing materials for contractors, fabrication companies, industrial facilities, and project stakeholders throughout the Gulf Coast and beyond.

Our customers come to us for testing.

They stay with us because of the knowledge, responsiveness, and trust behind the work.

For more than a decade, Thomas Chalkley has worked alongside contractors, inspectors, engineers, and project teams to help navigate qualification requirements, code compliance, procedure development, and welding-related challenges across a wide range of industries.

Today, MAV-TEC continues that same mission as an independently owned company focused on practical solutions, technical expertise, and long-term customer relationships.

Built Through Experience

Long before MAV-TEC became an independent company, Thomas worked in offshore fabrication and pipeline construction, inspection, and surveillance, gaining firsthand experience with the challenges contractors face in the field.

In 2013, he became involved with the testing operation that would eventually become MAV-TEC.

Over the years, the business changed ownership, structures changed, and company names changed.

The work didn’t.

Customers still needed reliable testing, practical guidance, and people who understood the realities of qualification and compliance in industrial environments.

Those relationships became even more important in 2020 when the operation faced liquidation under previous ownership.

Because of the overwhelming support of our customer base and their continued need for reliable testing and qualification services, the decision was made to move forward as an independent operation dedicated to serving those customers and preserving the expertise they relied on.

The result is the company that exists today.

MAV-TEC wasn’t built through a marketing campaign or a corporate acquisition strategy.

It was built because customers believed the service was worth preserving.

Knowledge Beyond the Paperwork

In our industry, compliant documentation and successful testing are important.

But they’re only valuable if they accurately reflect the project requirements, code provisions, materials, and field conditions they’re intended to support.

That’s where experience matters.

At MAV-TEC, we believe technical knowledge should guide the qualification process, not simply software outputs or automated templates.

Our team regularly helps customers review qualification requirements, develop procedures, navigate code questions, and identify potential issues before they create delays in the field.

The goal isn’t simply to produce paperwork. The goal is to produce documentation and qualifications that hold up when the work begins.

Independence Creates Flexibility

Operating independently allows MAV-TEC to focus on the realities of each customer’s project rather than forcing every situation into the same process.

A major refinery turnaround and a local fabrication project may both require qualification support, but their timelines, requirements, and operational challenges are rarely the same.

MAV-TEC approaches each project with that understanding.

Instead of forcing every customer into the same process, we work to provide solutions that make sense for the application, the code requirements, and the realities of the work being performed.

Technical Expertise Backed by Industry Involvement

MAV-TEC’s capabilities are supported by ongoing involvement within the welding industry.

Behind every qualification, procedure review, and inspection service is a team committed to technical excellence.

MAV-TEC’s team combines years of practical experience with ongoing involvement in the welding industry to help customers navigate qualification requirements and code compliance.

That involvement helps ensure customers receive guidance based on current standards, practical experience, and a deep understanding of the industries they serve.

Led by AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Thomas Chalkley, we remain actively engaged with industry standards and best practices through committee participation and continuing professional development.

What Integrity Means to Us

Integrity is a word that’s easy to put on a website.

We prefer to define it through our actions.

That’s how we’ve operated for years.

It’s how we operate today.

To us, integrity means providing honest answers.

It means telling customers when something won’t work, when a qualification approach may create problems later, or when a different solution would better serve the project.

It means producing documentation based on knowledge, experience, and code requirements rather than simply generating forms.

And it means treating every customer relationship as something worth earning and maintaining.

Looking Forward

The future of MAV-TEC isn’t defined by equipment or facilities alone.

It’s defined by continuing to earn the trust of the customers who rely on us for qualification support, technical guidance, and dependable service year after year.
